Last weekend Ruby Springs Lodge began fly fishing season at their 6,000 acre ranch, and they are nearly booked, but still have some space for those from Santa Clarita and beyond wishing to visit.
“Snowpack is at average or a little bit higher than average, which bodes very well for water levels throughout the summer. Which really is the most important part to the healthy fishery,” describes John Sampson of Ruby Springs Lodge.
This season should be very good for fly fishers at Ruby Springs Lodge, as well as opportunities for guests of all skill levels.
“You could have travelled the world and been to New Zealand or Mongolia or Costa Rica — everywhere, all over the place — fly fishing, or you can have never seen a fly fishing rod and just want to be exposed to the experience,” says Sampson. “You can just really show up.”
As a guest, fly rods, wading boots, waders and a fully stocked tackle shop with fly fishing guides are at your disposal.
And while the focus is on fly fishing this season, Ruby Springs Lodge also offers fine dining, golfing, biking and hiking trails.
“A lot of times people may do that after their day of fishing,” said Sampson of the many activities offered at Ruby Springs Lodge.
“This is a high-end experience,” concluded Sampson. “It’s the best way I could describe it.”
The ranch includes private accommodations like fine dining at its private restaurant right along the river bank, only available to guests of the lodge.
Sampson urges anyone wishing to book to do it soon, as the lodge has limited space left.
“We operate all the way through the end of October with the fishing program then we go into bird shooting and some big game hunting,” said Sampson. “But really what we’re best at is the fly fishing.”
